RB Leipzig v VfB Stuttgart
An 8-game unbeaten streak, and the optimistic atmosphere from the Supercup triumph, came crashing down for Leipzig last weekend. Die Rotten Bullen were put to the sword by far superior Bayer 04. The ultimate 3:2 scoreline largely flattered an away side that only woke up in the final 30 minutes. To lose narrowly to another ambitious dark-horse title contender is not unforgivable, but things won’t be getting much easier when Stuttgart visits this Friday.
Despite the untimely departure of captain Wataru Endo, VfB Stuttgart looked fluid on Saturday in their comfortable defeat of VfL Bochum. The 5 goals highlighted an attack on top form, but perhaps even more impressive was the cleansheet in defense. Last season Stuttgart only managed 2 Bundesliga matches without conceding a goal, so the solid defensive performance should bring confidence heading into a fixture Stuttgart have never flourished in.
In 10 previous encounters against RB Leipzig, Stuttgart have never won - 8 defeats and 2 draws. Of the 17 clubs in the current topflight, Leipzig are the only club whom Stuttgart are still yet to win against, and despite Die Schwaben’s sparkling form, I just don’t see that changing this Friday.
Prediction: RB Leipzig Win
VfL Bochum v Borussia Dortmund
