Season Prediction Accuracy: 46/90 (51.1%)
FC Bayern v FC Augsburg
For the first time this season, Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich will kick off the Bundesliga weekend with a Friday night clash against FC Augsburg.
Bayern endured a brief stumble earlier in the campaign, securing just four wins in five matches between September 28 and October 23. However, since that minor dip in form, Kompany’s team has responded emphatically, delivering five commanding victories across the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and UEFA Champions League.
What’s more, Bayern didn’t just win these matches—they did so without conceding a single goal. It’s a resounding statement of intent from a team that has faced relentless scrutiny over its defensive frailties in the past year. The much-maligned center-back partnership of Kim Min-Jae and Dayot Upamecano now looks like one of Europe’s most formidable duos, thriving within Kompany’s high-risk, high-reward defensive system.
Standing in the way of Bayern extending their imperious form are FC Augsburg. Die Fuggerstädter haven’t won at the Allianz Arena since 2015, and their record in Munich makes for grim reading: just one draw in their last ten visits.
While Augsburg’s chances of an upset appear slim, Thorup’s side does have some momentum on their side. They are unbeaten in their last four matches and recorded their first clean sheet of the season in a 1-0 win over Hoffenheim last weekend. It’s a tall order for Augsburg to derail Bayern’s resurgence, but Friday’s encounter offers the underdogs a chance to test themselves with nothing to lose!
Prediction: FC Bayern Win
Bayer Leverkusen v FC Heidenheim
For the third time this season, Bayer Leverkusen headed into an international break after dropping points in the Bundesliga.
Following last year’s historic campaign—where Leverkusen became the first team in Bundesliga history to go unbeaten throughout the season—few expected them to replicate such dominance. However, the extent of their drop-off has been surprising, especially given that nearly the entire “invincibles” squad was retained.
